The Fox interviews Michael Tedder (author of Project Unreality emulator)

Q.How many people are working on the emulator in total?

A.Technically, just me. I've received a lot of outside help fromnumerous people, but I still have to at least mention Oman for all thehelp he's been able to provide.

Q.Is it true 3dfx will have a part in the emulation (i have the monster 3d)?

A.Any 3D card that supports Direct3D (more specifically, DrawPrimitive inDirectX 5) will work. I might, at some day, add specific API calls forother cards, such as the GLIDE API for 3DFX, but for now, D3D is a must.By the way, this is currently destined to be a Win95-only application. I'llconsider letting someone do a port to another platform if they areinterested, but not any time soon.

Q.Being realistic, which official N64 game would work first?

A.I'd probably have to say Super Mario 64. Sure there's alot in SM64, buta majority of the polygons in SM64 are just plain gouraud shaded, and there's not that much 2D going on.

Q. Is your first target to make games like pong.v64 work ?

A.Yes, and possibly some homemade demos (like "The Display List Ate MyMind") are a good starting point.

Q.It was awful news recently to hear that the Saturnia Emulator was a fakeafter getting people excited (including myself). This is not to say thatyours is one though. But people only believe what they see. Jim from the Emu News told me about the Saturnia being a fake 2 weeks ago...interesting eh?

A.Yeah, but when I saw that picture, I knew I had seen it elsewhere, butjust couldn't place it. I don't know why anyone would want to starthype about anything fake. It gives yourself a small amount of glory while people become excited about it, but in the end everyone hates you. :) Just go through with the damn thing and have everyone flood your mailbox with emails like "THIS THING ROCKS!!" :)

Q.Also whilst your completing the emulator....would there be anychancethat my site could have a bit of a competition on making a name for the N64 Emulator that you are producing.

A.Go for it. The current name I have for it is 'N-less64', but I don'tlike it. So please, feel free to make up a name (hence the competition).

Q.Any other news before we go ??

A.Not really.. :( I'm stuck on something in the bootstrap code. Beingable to not read the PIF-ROM is hurting my progress alot... I'm currently trying to hook up a logic analyzer to the PIF and see if I can get anything of use from it. Hopefully I'll be past this problem by this weekend.
