Q.So
February 27th is the release date of the Project Unreality V0.3a
what exactly will run on that emulator?
A.I haven't really
tested that many things myself. The *main* thing that works is Pong,
and many, many other demos off Dextrose ( http://www.dextrose.com
) work quite nicely.
Q.What does
the Firedemo run like now and which is the best game/demo currently
working on the Project Unreality emulator.
A.The Firedemo is still
quite slow (about 1fps on my P166), as it's very CPU intensive.
Almost all games and demos use the multitasking features of the
N64, which lead to optimizations I can implement. The best is probably
Pong, as it's playable. :)
Q.Will sound
emulation be included in the V0.3a update and how does it sound
to date?
A.Sound is already
in place for v0.3a, I just need to changeover to DirectSound before
the release. The sound is pretty good for an initial implementation.
The only two ROMs that currently play sound are LaCMod (which is
*REALLY* crummy due to the fact that it's not yet possible to emulate
mixing of multiple audio channels in realtime), and Kid Stardust's
Startro. Startro plays nearly perfect, but due to some unimplemented
opcodes, only one sound buffer plays. I have attached a WAV of the
first buffer that it plays.(.WAV File Demo included)
Q.What is the
minimum/recommeded computer specification for the Project Unreality
V0.3a to be executed on?
A.A P2-266 runs Pong
at nearly full speed, so I highly recommend at least that. The minimum
requirement has been bumped up to a 486-25sx (from originally a
386-16sx) as I now use some native 486 opcodes. I'd like to see
Pong run on a 486, but I bet it'd be REALLY slow. :)
Q.What currently
is your favourite emulator other than P.U and why?
A.I fire up MAME every
now and then to play some old games. Why? Nostalgia. :)
Q.What are
you're thoughts on the Snes9x discontinued topic and do you think
that Nintendo had anything to do with their decision to stop updating.
A.I don't believe the
Snes9x story one bit. In my opinion, ZSNES is better now than Snes9x
was, but Nintendo hasn't stopped them. Emulation isn't illegal,
regardless. Using copyrighted games that you don't own is illegal,
and that's what Nintendo, Sega, and everyone else are concerned
about.
Q.Do you think
that this time next year we will be playing accurate N64, Playstation
and Saturn emulators? N64?
Sure. PSX and Saturn,
who knows? :)
Q.If not the
N64 what other console would you try to emulate and why?
Probably none. I just
don't have any interest in emulating anything else.
Q.After the
release of V0.3a, whats next on the agenda of Project Unreality?
A.It's a tossup between
dynamic recompilation and the beginnings of 3D emulation. I'm really
not sure which way it will go.
Q.What is your
top 3 N64 Game titles?
A.Tetrisphere, Starfox64,
and Mario64. (In that order)
